Dark Facility v1.1 - Web Build Now Available


Now the rating period has passed I have updated Dark Facility to v1.1 with various fixes, tweaks and enhancements which are listed below. The major change is there is now a web build of the game but there is still a downloadable Windows build of this new version too.

Fixes

  • Activating sprinting now works correctly so it doesn't matter in what order you press the move and sprint keys, sprinting will always be active when the sprint key is being held (provided you have the stamina of course).
  • Sprint is now assigned to Numpad Enter or Right Arrow for the alternative Numpad controls as this fixes the issue with not being able to turn whilst sprinting when using these controls.
  • Issue where in rare circumstances the monster could see through doors has been fixed.
  • Issue where in rare circumstances the monster could get stuck next to the player and would be unable to attack until the player moved has been fixed.
  • The monster can now enter a tile with a control console to avoid issues with its navigation and ability to attack the player.
  • The monster cannot now enter the Security Room until the player has used the Security Room Keycard to open the door for the first time.
  • The window is no longer borderless (relevant to Windows build only).
  • The game uses exclusive fullscreen when in fullscreen mode (relevant to Windows build only).
  • Gaps between environment meshes have been fixed or covered up.
  • Issue with potential stuttering when starting the game has been fixed.

Tweaks

  • Player base speed has been increased.
  • Player turning speed has been increased.
  • Player strafing speed has been increased when sprinting. This makes strafing more viable when running away although it is still significantly slower than sprinting forwards.
  • When the player runs out of breath, there is now a short delay before stamina starts to recharge.
  • Looking at the map is now like looking down at a physical device so your view is more limited when using it.
  • Keycards are now coloured a neutral grey to avoid implying the original blue colour meant something.
  • Monster wander speed and turning speed have been increased in line with the player's.
  • Monster attack animation speed increased which makes it easier for it to kill the player when next to them.
  • Monster chase speed has been slightly increased.
  • Monster behaviour has been tweaked which should increase the likelihood of encounters especially towards the end of the game.
  • Door activation areas have been slightly tweaked to work better.

Enhancements

  • There is now a web build!
  • Player footsteps and headbob added.
  • The currently held keycard is now displayed in the bottom right of the HUD.
  • A new message is displayed when using the Security Room Keycard on the Security Room door for the first time.
  • There are signs at important locations.
  • Press P to pause the game.
  • Press Esc to quit the game (relevant to Windows build only).
  • More geometry added to the exterior of rooms in the power plant section and the 'brown tank' model has been updated.

Thanks to everyone who provided feedback during the jam rating period and in particular those who recorded playthroughs - it all helped to inform this new version.
